Nicolas Bourgeois pursues a practice rooted in digital embodiment while working at the intersection of sound and performance arts. Using the body as a means of expression, they develop devices that incorporate biometric sensors to generate new musical gestures. Thus, their body is freed from its fixed form and becomes a field of exploration. The outcome of a real-time interaction between Nicolas and programmed logics. Assertive, tangible, and raw, their work celebrates a plurality of 2SLGBTQIA+ realities. Their performance Nœuds au ventre earned them the Gotfrit-Barlett Prize, awarded at the 25th Jeu de Temps/Times Play. Undertaking a master’s degree in composition and sound creation at the University of Montreal (Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang), Nicolas Bourgeois’ creations are featured in various emerging and academic artistic spheres, both in Canada and abroad.
